Assessment Services

My approach is collaborative, comprehensive, and strengths-focused. A thorough evaluation can provide a deeper understanding of your or your child’s mental and emotional strengths and challenges, as well as provide you with recommendations and referrals to address individual needs and help you or your child thrive. I specialize in diagnosing and supporting neurodiverse learners (ADHD, specific learning disorders, ASD) and areas of high comorbidity, such as Anxiety and Mood disorders (e.g., depression or bipolar disorder). When applicable, an IEP or 504 plan may be recommended, and appropriate accommodations will be provided.

What to Expect

Comprehensive assessments generally involve multiple components. The time required to complete an assessment varies depending upon the reasons for the assessment and types of questions being asked. For child/adolescent assessments, parents are a critical source in the evaluation process but I will also obtain collateral information from other professionals who know your child (such as teachers, physicians, tutors, and therapists). The testing process involves a clinical interview, administration of a individualized battery of tests, scoring and interpretation of tests, a written report, and a final feedback session(s). I also offer an age-appropriate feedback session for your child. If desired, I can join you in a collaborative meeting with your child’s school-based support team to help put my recommendations into place.

If you are considering whether an assessment is appropriate or are interested in obtaining assessment services from me, please contact me at (510) 789-5881. I offer a brief initial phone consultation in which we can discuss the presenting problems and whether or not an assessment would be appropriate at this time. If we agree to begin the testing process, I will schedule an initial interview to gather additional information and develop an individualized assessment plan.

In the initial interview, I meet with the client (if an adult) or the parents to gather thorough background information and discuss specific concerns or questions to be answered. Test administration is in-person and completed in 2-3 hour blocks of approximately 3 sessions. This varies depending on the measures administered, the examinee’s age/ability to participate in long testing sessions, and scheduling.

For children and adolescents, testing sessions are ideally scheduled during the morning when they are rested and alert. If your child takes medication for ADHD or other conditions, please discuss this with me prior to the testing appointment.

Approximately two to three weeks after the last day of test administration, a feedback session is scheduled to review the test results and my recommendations. A comprehensive written report that explains the findings and addresses the initial concerns and questions is provided during this feedback session. This report can be shared with others as you wish (e.g., schools, therapists, primary care provider, psychiatrist) or, if desired and agreed upon, I can provide additional feedback sessions tailored to other providers.

How much will testing cost?

The total fee varies depending upon the nature and extent of the assessment services needed to meet each client’s specific needs. For comprehensive evaluations, I offer a flat-rate assessment package ($7,350) so the total cost is clear up front. The cost of an assessment includes the clinical interview/parent intake, gathering collateral information, reviewing relevant records, test administration, scoring, interpretation, report writing, and final feedback session(s), which is typically around 25 hours of services. If a more focused or briefer assessment is desired, I will be able to provide an estimate of charges after talking with you by phone about your specific needs and what you hope to learn from the assessment.

Payments are accepted in the form of cash or check.

Insurance is currently NOT accepted for assessments. Please contact your insurance provider directly for more information about their reimbursement policy for psychological, neuropsychological, and/or psycho-educational testing. I require payment in full, but am happy to provide a “superbill” or invoice that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement purposes.
